One again, Hermes has broken its own record when its 30 cm Birkin bag from crocodile skin sold at Hong Kong Christie’s auction for $379,261 after which it becomes the most expensive auctioned handbag of world. There was 18-karat white gold hardware along with hundreds of diamonds fixed in its straps.

Previously, a similar dull white Himalaya from 2008 set a record with purchasing price of $300,186. The top spot before that was held by a fuchsia diamond-studded Birkin with price of $222,000.

But many would surprise to know the prices of these bags which are enough to purchase a good apartment in any posh city. According to Christie’s international director of handbags and accessories, Matt Rubinger, Himalaya family is selling these pieces which are primarily diamond pieces. There is a combination of 245 diamonds with white gold detailing. Its top position in the market is due to the diamond hardware by Himalaya. There is a rumor that the Himalaya style will be discontinued by the company as dying of its leather take at least 48 hours. A brand new Himalaya takes around six years.

It seems that we should accept the 2016 study which claimed that one should invest on Hermes Birkin bags instead on gold or stocks.
