When I think of sports these days, I find it interesting to note the recent trend in increasing number of amazing women sport celebrities making their mark in history.
So here’s a list of women who have definitely increased the popularity of a sport and become an inspiration for millions of others around the world.

On top of our list at number one sports celebrity divas is a Russian beauty Anna Kournikova. Known not only for her game, but more for her killer looks and sizzling romance, this girl is definitely the headliner.

Ranking World No:1 in women’s singles by the Women’s Tennis Association on three separate occasions, the Williams sisters, is considered one of the greatest women’s tennis players of all time. She was the first African American woman to become No. 1 in the world for the first time on Feb. 25, 2002 year.

Not far behind her sister Serena Williams cavities also worth mentioning in our list of amazing female sports stars. Winning more Grand Slam titles in singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles than any other active player to the women, the twin Williams is as phenomenal as her sister.
4. Yani Tseng
Golfing started as a male sport, but some amazing women sport celebrities have made it their own by their phenomenal accomplishments. Yani Tseng hails from Taiwan and is the youngest player in LPGA history to have won three career major championships. She is currently the #1 in Women’s World Golf Rankings.
5. Jenny Thompson
Jenny Thompson has made history by winning more swimming medals and gold medals than any other woman in Olympic history. She has so far won 8 gold medals and a total of 12 medals. She most certainly is one of the most amazing women sport celebrities of our times.
6. Kim Yu-Na
South Korea has been in the news for a lot of wrong reasons. But, Kim Yu-Na made news and become an inspirational icon for her country by becoming the 2010 Olympic Figure Skating Champion. The number of medals she has won in Figure Skating including 2009 Four Continent Championship, 2007 and 2008 World Figure Skating Bronze medals, 2006 World Junior Figure Skating and Junior Grand Prix Final Champion certainly brings pride to her country.
7. Mia Hamm
Considered by many to be the greatest player in the history of women’s football, Mia Hamm has brought women’s soccer into the spotlight with her amazing grace, talent and skill. She holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals in both women’s as well as men’s football with an astonishing total of 158 international goals.
These amazing women sport celebrities have done much to bring attention to the world of women in the field of sports. But, most importantly, they have inspired millions of girls and women to overcome whatever obstacles they face and follow their dream to make it to the very top.
