While it certainly seems like Gwyneth Paltrow enjoys giving us reasons to criticize her as much as she likes to sing, perhaps it’s time for us to stop lashing out at her much. Tina Fey told In Style that she identified with Paltrow’s feelings of how hard it is to be a working mother, and suggested that even though Paltrow thinks she’s gained the authority to tell us how much ginger to put in our cookies because she wears feathers for earrings now, we should really just give her less shit.

Fey said, “Any time you talk about being a working mother and you complain about it in any way, people eat your face. I remember reading some interview where Gwyneth Paltrow said something like ‘I missed my kids on the set one day and I was crying.’ And I thought, Yeah, I’ve totally done that.” Fey continued: “But on the website where I read it there were these furious comments. ‘But you’re a movie star!’ Yes, it’s much worse for a mom serving in Afghanistan. Of course. But there’s just no forgiveness.” To Paltrow’s credit though, if she happens to have the same boss as Tina (who she describes as not leaving her alone when she’s in the loo), then perhaps we don’t have to jump down her throat every time she tells us what collared shirt our kids should be wearing to funerals. So we’ll ratchet it back to every other time. (You will notice, however, that Tina does defend all of Paltrow’s LONDON IS BETTER THAN THE US talk.
