French fashion House Givenchy is busy in displaying new designs and fashion trends. Givenchy is now become multinational label which has been known as Haute Couture and ready to wear stocks for male and female and fashion accessories and famous Givenchy fragrances throughout the world. LVMH Group has owned the Givenchy brand since 1988.

American film star Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993) once commented that Givenchy was not only a couturier but also created personalities. Fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy was born in rich family in France in the year 21927. When his age was only 10 years, he visited the World’s Fair in Paris and made strong determination to establish his brand and become a fashion designer. After completing his education at the school of Arts in Paris at the age of 17, he started working with Parisian designer Jacques Fath sand also worked for other designers comprising of Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior. In 1952 he set up his own fashion house in Paris. Givenchy was appreciated for his simple, reasonably priced mix and match blouses, skirts and slacks. He was reputed for his embroidered and printed dresses and accessories. His collection brought a new and excellent change in fashion industry by adopting of traditional garments according to the requirements of the time.

Givenchy met with Audery Hepburn, the ideal female actress, in 1953 and this meeting brought revolution in his life. Hepburn helped him to dress the Hollywood film stars and got very much popularity from all corners of the life. When John F Kennedy was assassinated in 1953 then the world looked the Kennedy family wearing Givenchy clothes and then his dresses got popularity worldwide. Givenchy introduced various comfortable stocks of ladies dresses and he was the first fashion designer who prepared short skirts so that women could show their knees fist time from 1920. His work has been combined with delicacy and decency is liked for separate skirts and tops, special embroidered and printed clothes, tabular evening clothes, ball gowns headband embedded with beads, shawls, the princess dresses, sleeveless coat, funnel neckline and his fragrances.

With the passage of time Givenchy brand has been introducing new items. In 1973 he exhibited the “Gentleman Givenchy” and this collection has also got popularity. This brand has also extended its distribution network to many other countries specially Far East and United States.

In 1988, Hubert de Givenchy was in trouble for lack of funds so he sold his company to the LVMH Group (Dior, Christian Lacroix, Celine, Kenzo). In 1995, Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH, hired the services of popular fashion designer John Galliano which was declared the best British designer of the year; bring Givenchy into the era of modern fashion designing. The appointment of Galliano was a great shock for many observers as well as the sixty-eight-year-old Givenchy, who learned about it. Galliano’s first collection for Givenchy in 1996 combined his exclusive evening dresses with the decent suiting of Givenchy. In October 1996 Galliano suddenly joined with Dior and appointed on the vacant position of Gianfranco Ferre. In the future their designs were executed by another Englishman, 27 year old Alexander Mc Queen, who has been awarded with “Designer of the Year” for 1996 of the British Fashion Award council.
