At Prabal Gurung’s spring ’14 presentation, a 45 second pause between the start of the music and the time the models made their grand entrance gave way for some thoughtful piano music, immediately making viewers wiggle in their seats and building anticipation. And then a collective inhale resounded from the benches as a group of brightly dressed models marched in, veiling themselves in shine. They stood, stared back at the crowd and the audience fidgeted even more.
That moment gave the ladylike 1950s-inspired dresses a bit more rock ‘n’ roll flair, while establishing Prabel’s precision in his breathtaking spring ’14 season, simultaneously. The actual 50s only wish they knew, as the nail-polish-colored suits sets hid intricate details in angular trims and cuts. As the models turned the corner of the runway, they were also adorned with throwback sunglasses, punchy pastel lips and futuristic earpieces.
A printed plastic overcoat, a clinical-looking back brace tucked under an evening gown, a fleet of dresses that made us want to wear spearmint green all season long and a plastic skirt that bled from yellow to a clear print were some of our favorite looks.
