The leafy Prado path was converted to a runway for this show in which several celebrities participated including Gisele Bundchen, Tilda Swinton, Vin Diesel and Vanessa Paradis.
It was only last year that diplomatic relations between Cuba and USA restored and the reason Chanel’s designer Lagerfeld chose Cuba for his collection was the cultural diversity of this island country.
Diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries established after an agreement “The Cuban Thaw” in December 2014 while Canada and Pope Francis played important role in this agreement.
After this agreement, western brands started their campaign in Cuba including catwalk fashion shows and Chanel became the first brand to do so.
Paseo del Prado is the main highway of Havana that hosted this show while Prado was redesigned in 1928 by a French landscape architect and it is a symbol of French and Cuban friendship. Eight beautiful bronze statues of lions are positioned at every crossroad here.
Major cruise silhouettes started the show which includes a masculine-feminine with wide trousers that are worn with long masculine jackets. Shirts have fabric belts while the last two items are Panama hats and two-tone shoes.
A traditional Cuban shirt ‘guayabera’ was made the underlying theme of the show while the shirt has flat pleats, pockets and shoulder tabs.
Chanel also brought few other trends there including cigar-inspired clutch bags, feathers, pencil skirts, multi-colored palm tree prints, hollow necklines, Cadillac print and cycling shorts embroidered with camellias.
All the dresses were decorated with beautiful colors appropriate for an old town like Cuba including bright green, pink, yellow, smoky brown, orange and turquoise.
