IF THERE ever was an event to make the Academy Awards look like a frumpy frock convention it is New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit.

And as two of the world’s most beautiful singers, Rihanna and Beyonce, gave the models and designers a run for their money with their revealing dresses.

Four days after Kate Middleton wore a dress from fashion house Alexander McQueen, the Met held a preview of its retrospective of the designer’s work.

The A-list turned out in their hundreds to attend Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty in tribute to McQueen, who committed suicide last year.

Among them were Fergie, Madonna (in Stella McCartney), Rene Zellweger, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez (in Gucci), Gisele Bundchen (in Alexander McQueen) and Aussies Miranda Kerr (in Marchesa) and Naomi Watts.
