It is not properly known about the origin of word ‘supermodel’. There’s dispute in the industry who got the million-dollar moniker in the start but only one woman, Emme, can claim to be the first ever plus-size supermodel. Emme quickly became a famous name in the 1980s while most of the companies still prefer to work with models less than size 6.
No one can deny that today plus-size women are getting more fashion opportunities and it is mainly because of Emme. And this trend is still ongoing. We interviewed her to know the change in the industry in the past few decades and about the bad, good and ugly things of the industry.

How did she starts her career

She started as a reporter for AZ, an NBC affiliate. Then she joined NYC after a year and a half and worked there as a marketing director. She amazed to see an article on plus-size modeling in an on-flight magazine while combing. Though, she liked her job but she took the address of the agency and visited there during lunch time. There she met the agent Susan Georget who signed her right on the spot. She continued her career with Patty Sicular. Though, she was unaware of the work a plus-size supermodel do but she like to explore the idea.

Do you notice any differences in Fashion Industry now and then?

It’s happy to see a new generation of young size 12-plus models present in the go sees, runways and photo shoots and it feels as a new day in fashion industry. Instead of any guilt or shame anywhere, there is proud among them. She actually met few professional wrestlers and it’s also a good thing as you can predict about the interesting things. Now the rates of jobs are quite high but high but still far below the normal models. Though, the trend is changing with time. But the most important thing is that the world is changing and giving importance to plus-size modeling.

Do you feel that public like Plus size models?

Yes. The magazine editorials are in need of top rank 12-plus models and the size 12, 14, 16 with 5’9 to 6’1 remain the most important part of crop campaigns. But online, there are number of women happy for their size who with size 18 and above and taking part modeling in runways and catalogues.
