For its resort collection Max Mara the Italian brand took the fighting spirit of post-World War II Britain as the inspiration, and for a one-off runway event staged at its latest flagship on Bond Street in London. The Max Mara Resort 2016 collection contained a sporty, masculine feel, along with loose silhouettes and shapes encouraged by boxing champs and flying aces. The collection had dark blue pinstripes galore worked into smart belted capes, fluid jumpsuits along with stretchy waistbands and curvy strapless gowns.
This season as well the brand’s signature belted coats were even more loose and languid, along with hoods and oversize pockets encouraged by boxers’ robes. They were decorated in metallic fabric or had an abstract floral print. Other bolder and more structured coats were done in a patchwork of crushed haircalf and came in rich colors of eggplant or teal. All the pants were loose and crinkly, as if they would spend lots of time in the spin cycle. The silhouettes were very distinct with sparkly, figure hugging gowns along with racer backs.
