Nia Sanchez: 5 Things To Know About Miss USA 2014 Winner
Nia Sanchez (24) has grabbed the crown of Miss USA 2014. At the Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge Louisiana on Sunday 8th June at the annual pageant, the former Miss Nevada beat the 50 other participants of this beauty contest.
Nia was crowned by Erin Brady, former Miss USA 2013 winner, who passed the title to her at the live competition in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 8th June.
The live telecast of competition, hosted by Thomas Roberts and Giuliana Rancic, continued for 3 hours and among the total 50 contestants, the final 6 remained from North Dakota, Iowa, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and surely, Nevada.
1. Nia is the first winner from Nevada: since the start of competition in 1952, the 24-year-old became the first pageant queen from Nevada and thus making history. Erin Brandy, the 2013 winner, belongs to Connecticut while Olivia Culpo was from Rhode Island. She won 2012 Miss USA and also later Miss Universe pageant.
2. Nia was not born in Nevada: Though in the Miss USA history, she was the first one to represent Nevada but she actually wasn’t born there. She came here at the age of 7 and before that she born and lived in Sacramento, California.
3. Nia is a world traveler: at the age of 7, Nia moved from the Golden State California and lived between Washington and California. So far she has travelled to 13 countries and planning to visit couple more this year. She worked as a nanny in Europe after her high school graduation and then travelled to the Middle East, Austria and Switzerland. She also travelled to the Great Wall of China, Thailand and Mexico in 2009 for mission trips (she’s also half Hispanic). In the United States and internationally, Nia has had pageantry success. Las Vegas is her current hometown where she settled and has lived as current Miss Nevada in previous year.
4. Nia is a Tae Kwon Do master: Nia is more than just a pretty face. She has trained for 12 years in Tae Kwon Do and has a fourth degree black belt.
5. Nia is a real-life Disney princess: Nia beat out thousands of applicants as the face of a character for Hong Kong Disney. She stands at 5’ 8” and working as a full-time model for the past seven years. Now she’s also holding the crown of Miss USA 2014 along with the crown for princess. Disney movie “Tangled” is her favorite movie.
