Salma Hayek hopes ‘The Prophet’ inspires new generations0 Comments

Salma Hayek mentioned on Monday that the animated feature movie called “The Prophet” which was produced by her has been a personal passion project; she is expecting that she could inspire young viewers to think outside the box regarding the ways to improve the world.

She is visiting Lebanon, which is her ancestral homeland, regarding the international permiere of the movie; this movie has been written and directed by Roger Allers, who is the maker of the Disney production “The Lion King.”

She mentioned to The Associated Press that the film has got a “message of peace”

She mentioned as she walked down the red carpet regarding the film premiere in a downtown Beirut cinema complex, “I think the entire world could use a bit message of peace, and more than a message of peace, to watch something which is uplifting for the spirit and joyous, and you can share with your family.”

The movie describes the story of Almitra, a young girl who finds the voice she lost because her friendship with Mustafa, a poet imprisoned for his ideas. She as well gives the voice of the girls mother, Kamila.

This movie has the story which is based on the ‘The Prophet,” the book iconic Lebanese which was written by Khalil Gibran in 1923 that has inspired generations of artists. This book is a series of poems regarding love, joy, sorrow and in at least into 40 languages this book has been translated and it has never been out of print.

The movie is separated into chapters and illustrated by different animators. The score is by Gabriel Yared who is a French composer of Lebanese descent and won an Oscar for his work on the ‘English Patient’.

While talking with reporters on Monday she explained that the movie as “a love letter to my heritage” which expectantly going to motivate new generation to think differently.

Hayek mentioned to reporters in Beirut ahead of the films premiere, “Via this book I got to know my grandfather. Through this book I got to have my grandfather teaching me regarding life. Therefore this movie is very personal for me.” In August the movie releases in cinemas in the United States.

She mentioned that via illustrations, it was possible to capture the spirit of Gibran’s work.

“It motivates the new generation to go somewhere else to break out of the box” to alter the world, she mentioned.

As well the film assisted brings to the viewers a message of compassion and humanity from an author who is from a violence torn region.

She mentioned, “Gibran is an Arabic writer who has written philosophy and poetry  and who gathered all religions and the world along.”

She was sporting a dress by Lebanese designer Elie Saab on the red carpet, she admitted that she did not read the book to her seven year old daughter, named Valentina, however has watched the movie with her.

She mentioned to AP, “It is not easy for a kid to understand (The Prophet) as its writer, that is why we created the film. She understands it in the movie, because she watches the pictures of the world.”

Her daughter and her father attend on her first trip to Lebanon.

She added, “This has been the most interesting trip. In fact I was not ready for how emotional it would be for my family to be here.”
