Siki Im’s spring collection rewarded respect to his coming of age story, which contained soaking up skate and street culture, listening to Sonic Youth and dreaming of moving to New York City.
Named “Youth Museum” the collection contained the frenetic energy of a wayward teen. All the oversize cotton ponchos were covered over graphic sweatshirts and braced at the waist with rope, which was embellished with found objects of Im’s past like motherboards, CDs and locks. Jeans from Im’s younger line Den Im randomly drape from looks.
Im as well used more shade and print. He displayed a hot pink sweatshirt along with an asymmetric zipper opening with loose allover printed divide that were evocative of pajamas.
Even though the collection put a spotlight on Im’s past, it displayed the designer’s move away from his signature street goth responsiveness. “Still I love black, however I am looking forward to push my boundaries,” Im mentioned. It was a greeting progression and a bright spot on the New York schedule.
