Organizing a wedding can take its toll on your skin and health and can be a stressful experience.

On how to get your skin glowing and prevent major break outs before the big day, bridal makeup artist Jules Cardozo-Marsh shares her nine tips.

  1. The latest beauty fad hitting the news is ‘double cleansing’. Regardless of whether you choose to double cleanse or not, it’s crucial to make sure you cleanse your skin properly, especially if you every day wear make-up. By using an oil-based cleanser, which will remove makeup and dirt, cleanse first. Apply DHC Deep Cleaning Oil. Along with hydrating the skin, it also contains a great anti-oxidant Vitamin E, which is essential for producing healthy collagen and helps repair skin cells. Bu using a gel cleanser or cream, cleanse again and to gently exfoliate, use a muslin cloth. But don’t over-stimulate the skin as this will remove natural oils from skin which leaves it feel sensitive and dry. For all types of skin, Liz Earle does a fabulous range of cleansers.

  2. It all boils down to personal choice to either tone or not, as ‘applying a toner’ can be a little confusing. Your skin will not be damaged by using a toner but to choose one that is suitable for your skin type and alcohol free is the important point to consider. After cleansing, it helps hydrate the face and can get rid of excess cleanser and oil. I like to use a cleanser containing a natural rose fragrance.
  3. Using a gentle exfoliator, ‘exfoliate your skin’ once or twice a week which helps get rid of dry and flaky skin, and dead skin cells. By revealing healthy, soft skin, exfoliating helps speed up the skin’s renewal process. An abrasive exfoliator will damage the skin, therefore don’t use it. Try using a brand which is hypoallergenic and 100% natural.
  4. You should invest wisely as ‘moisturizing’ your skin is the most important step. Everything absorbed into your skin that soaks into your skin. The ingredients used in your daily moisturizer are absorbed into your skin. Always consider your skin type but if you prefer, you can opt for an organic brand. Don’t be afraid to ask for a sample and try before you buy.

  5. Consider the benefits to ‘apply a serum’; though adding another step into your skincare routine may be time consuming. These products are able to penetrate the layers of skin and feeding it with what it needs, as they’re more concentrated. Serums are mainly water-based, so they’re ideal if you’ve oily skin. They work on correcting the balance and a whole host of skin concerns can be addressed by them like acne, anti-ageing and redness.
  6. ‘Facials’ can even help the most stressed out bride relax, along with their goodness to skin. Book a course of treatments, if budget allows. Just in case you have a break out, I’d advice not to book a facial the week of your wedding. Facial help repair skin cells creating a healthy, radiant complexion and get the blood pumping which is great for your circulation.

  7. For the tiredness of brides, ‘eye treatments’ are suitable. Cucumber slices, which have been kept in the fridge, are cheap and cheerful. To reduce any puffiness, apply on the morning of your wedding. DHC Revitalising Moisture Strips is a brand favorite with celebrities. Leave for 20/30 minutes after applying under the eye.
  8. For the faint hearted, ‘chemical peels’ are not fit. They can be best suited to those suffering with acne and help smooth he skin. Once the ‘chemical’ has been applied, the skin blisters and peels off and these peels are more abrasive than microdermabrasion. With no direct exposure to the skin, the ‘new’ skin will be softer and needs to be treated accordingly. If you’re willing to undergo treatment, follow the advice of your dermatologist.
  9. In the weeks before wedding, never underestimate the ‘benefit of sleep’. To help encourage a relaxing night’s sleep, there are lots of products on the market. Wearing an eye mask can help block out any light and lavender is one of my favorite. A cup of hot milk and a relaxing bath work wonders also.
