This is a special fashion month for Halima Aden. During New York Fashion Week on 15th February, IMG’s first hijab-wearing model made her debut through Yeezy Season 5. Now the 19 year old model is present in Milan as she is seen wearing all black dress at Alberta Ferreti runway few days ago. Later, the Somali-American model was spotted at Max Mara with camel shaded look. Carine Roitfeld is Aden’s industrial ally and she designed both these shows.
Aden is different from most of Muslim models as she strictly follows her dress code and this makes her become more prominent than others. Aden made headlines last year during the Miss Minnesota pageant where she wore burkini and hijab. Now, the model is taking few tips from the style of other IMG models, Instagram posts and Gigi Hadid.
Now, the fashion industry is adopting a new approach towards diversity and it is evident from appearance of Aden in runways like Alberta Ferretti and her signing by IMG. The positive attitude was evident in Fall 2017 NYFW runway as at least one colored model was featuring in every runway. Other Muslim models will also get encouragement from this entry by Aden whether they wear headscarf or not.
